The Holidays are Comming!!

The last two holidays of the year are fast approaching. Like in a few weeks for Thanksgiving and next month is Christmas. When I was younger, these holidays meant spending time with family. Of course being young and what not, Christmas was my favorite because I always got neat presents. I didn't get to buy presents for my immediate family for a while because I was a little kid and I didn't have a lot of money lol. Though one year, I withdrew like $80 from my savings account and was able to get presents for some of my family.

Years later, I basically don't buy things for anyone now. Maybe something for my Grandparents, but I used to buy for them, My mom and step-dad, my uncles/aunt etc. But I don't know what anyone like anymore. It's the same way when people gift things to me. I don't really get presents from anyone anymore...I get cash from the Grandparents and maybe a little something here and there from someone else. Like the neighbors or friends that send me stuff. Other then that, I usually buy my own gift. I guess it's better then getting a gift card to a store you don't shop at.

My uncle and aunt were pretty bad at gift giving. Mainly because they sort of grouped me in with their kids, who were into Old Navy and what not. I got a gift card from them once. $50 to spend at a store I never been into before in my life lol.

I guess in a sense even though it's very impersonal, unless you're with the person 24/7 and know exactly what they are into and know what they have already, giving them cash is the best way to go. Saves people standing in line to buy the thing, and then the receiver standing in the return line to get a refund of the item you got them.

Anyway I guess I sort of got off topic a bit. My main point was things seemed a lot less commercial back when I was a kid. You didn't see Christmas stuff in stores until it was after Thanksgiving, now you see it before Halloween is even over. Then RIGHT after Halloween they put out MORE Christmas stuff and forget Thanksgiving all together. Also, used to there was Black Friday which happened after Thanksgiving, but now they have like a Pre Black Friday, where stores open up Thanksgiving DAY. Like...8PM or something. God people are so greedy now, it's all about getting the best thing. Which probably isn't even FOR anyone else, it's just for themselves.

Well I don't really celebrate holidays with anyone anymore. I don't go out and buy gifts, or get up early to unwrap them like we used to. Half the time we don't have a tree either. Last couple of years we have a baby one sitting on the counter, but we don't have the space for a bigger tree. When you get older, Christmas sort of loses its charm, because when you're a kid, all you can think about is Santa and Reindeer, not how much things cost, or how soon you can buy it.

I hope that wherever you are, or whatever holiday you celebrate, that you have a safe one.

Thanks for reading!
